The name terra ignota -meaning “unknown land”- was used in Latin to refer to those parts of the world which hadn’t yet been discovered. Likewise, letra ignota would refer to those words that, like unknown land, haven’t been discovered yet -perhaps because they haven’t been written or translated-.
